for forecast >> recreational use of marijuana is now legal in the state of washington. voters passed initiative 502 last month, but those who choose to light up -- could find themselves in a legal haze. adults can now possess up to an ounce of pot but growing it and selling it is still a crime. national political figures are pointing out that smoking pot is still a federal crime. colorado also legalized recreational use of marijuana -- but that amendment won't take effect until the governor proclaims that it passed. same sex marriage is also now legal in the state of washington after the governor signed a measure legalizing same-sex marriage in that state. last month, 54- percent of voters approved referendum- 74.. it had asked people to approve or reject the state law legalizing same-sex marriage..which legislators passed earlier this year. gay and lesbian couples can start picking up their wedding certificates and licenses at county auditors' offices. washington joins several other other states which now allow gay and lesbian couples to wed. >> this tragic discovery in iowa. five months aft

negotiations in washington. we will show you remarks from president obama at the white house and senate majority leader harry reid and mitch mcconnell on the senate floor. first, an update on where negotiations stand after the meeting between president and congressional leaders at the white house. >> steven dennis joins us from the role call as a white house reporter. stephen, how did the meeting between the president and congressional leaders go? >> i think it was a meeting where they may be set the framework for getting a short- term deal to avert tax increases for most americans, extend unemployment benefits, and maybe take care of a few other small things. at this point, it is a race against the clock and it is up to harry reid and mitch mcconnell and the senate to see if they can have a bipartisan compromise. the president said if he cannot come up with something in the next couple days, he wants harry reid to bring a bill to the floor that would do with the president wants to do, which is tax increases, extend unemployment benefits, etcetera, at least get a vote on it. harry reid

for you live. >> watching what's happening in washington today with the fiscal cliff. another round of negotiation between the white house and speaker john baker. aside is willing to bend. the president insisting that expiring tax cuts be renewed for everyone except for the wealthiest americans. republicans insist on deeper cuts in entitlement programs like medicare. neither side is given any specifics on what they're planning to cut. a likely compromise would include tax increases on the top tax bracket from 35 to 37 percent, not the 39% the president is asking. significant cuts to medicare to go into effect. the debt ceiling is also looming in these talks. the treasury say the u.s. is likely hit its 16.4 trillion dollar debt limit by the end of this year. the treasury could use creative measures that would stave off in the u.s. debt default until mid february. as far as where we are with these talks right now watching 10? we are basically nowhere. and is looking more likely that we will go off the fiscal cliff at the end of the year. 706 a m right now and we'll be back with more i
